Breed Type: Pariah-type (primitive), indigenous dog
Recognition: Recognized by the FCI under the name Formosan Mountain Dog (provisionally), and by several national clubs in Taiwan.

Height: 16–20 inches (40–50 cm)
Weight: 25–40 lbs (11–18 kg)
Coat: Short, dense, and sleek
Color: Black, fawn, brindle, or occasionally white
Ears: Erect and triangular
Tail: Curled or sickle-shaped

Intelligent and Alert: Quick learners and often wary of strangers (excellent watchdogs).
Loyal: Deeply devoted to their family or handler.
Independent: A strong survival instinct from their semi-wild heritage.
Energetic: Need regular exercise and mental stimulation.
Reserved: Not overly affectionate with strangers but can be gentle and loyal with family.

Thought to be one of the oldest and most primitive dog breeds, having evolved alongside Austronesian people in Taiwan for thousands of years.
Originally used for hunting, guarding, and companionship in aboriginal tribes.
Modern urbanization has led to a decline in their natural population, but conservation efforts are ongoing.
